Director of Cards

Director of Cards - Monieworld

Who we are

Moniepoint Group was recently ranked the fastest-growing fintech in Africa by the Financial Times (2024). We’re proud to have Visa join our $110 million Series C round as a strategic investor, alongside Google’s Africa Investment Fund. With this support, we're scaling globally to build transformative financial products that solve meaningful problems for underserved communities—starting with the African diaspora.

As part of this expansion, we’ve launched Monieworld—our new product line focused on enabling Africans abroad to seamlessly spend and send money across borders. Monieworld is built on the same trusted infrastructure that powers over a billion transactions each month and moves more than $22 billion in value annually through Moniepoint. Our mission with Monieworld is simple: build a differentiated banking platform for the African diaspora that makes it easier to support loved ones, manage finances across continents, and participate more fully in global economic life.

About the role

Location: London (hybrid, 2 days a week at the office). We’re based in a modern office near Southwark station in downtown London.

As Director of Cards, you’ll define and deliver a best-in-class card program and proposition for Monieworld—one that seamlessly integrates into our multi-currency and cross-border platform and serves the unique needs of the African diaspora.

We’re looking for someone who brings deep technical expertise and end-to-end ownership of card programs: from backend infrastructure and processing to card design with manufacturers, customer experience, and compliance. You should have previously built or led the development of an in-house card issuance platform and have had direct responsibility for the overall success of a card program, including scheme relationships, processing integrations, and go-to-market execution.

This is a unique opportunity to:

  • Build a card product from the ground up—owning the full lifecycle from architecture to launch;
  • Lead relationships and integrations with card schemes, processors, and personalization bureaus;
  • Design and oversee the backend infrastructure needed to support card issuance, transaction processing, and reconciliation flows;
  • Shape the customer experience and define features that differentiate our card offering for globally-minded users;
  • Help chart a path toward in-house issuance and future principal membership with card schemes, giving us more flexibility and control as we scale.

We’re looking for a product leader who thrives on solving complex problems, has a vision for what a transformative card program and experience should look like, and is excited about driving financial inclusion on a global scale.

Job responsibilities:

  • Product strategy and vision: Define and execute the roadmap for our card offering, ensuring alignment with Monieworld’s multi-currency and cross-border payments goals.
  • Card infrastructure and execution: Build the end-to-end infrastructure for card processing, including integrations with processors, card schemes, personalization bureaus, and core banking systems.
  • Operational ownership: Oversee daily card program operations, including transaction processing, dispute resolution, fraud handling, and card lifecycle management.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Work closely with engineering, design, compliance, and risk to deliver a seamless and compliant user experience.
  • Regulatory and scheme compliance: Develop processes to meet all relevant regulations and scheme rules, with a focus on security and scalability.
  • Team leadership: Hire, mentor, and lead a team of product managers to deliver on ambitious goals.
  • Customer experience and innovation: Design card features and experiences tailored to the African diaspora, with future-facing goals around in-house issuance and principal scheme membership.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of product management experience in fintech or payments, with direct ownership of a card program for the UK market.
  • Proven success building and launching card products at an early-stage start-up or scale-up environment. We’re specifically looking for experience in high-growth, product-led settings, rather than traditional corporate or banking environments.
  • Experience working with card schemes (e.g. Visa, Mastercard) and managing issuer/processor relationships.
  • Strong technical fluency: ability to work closely with engineers to develop robust, scalable payments infrastructure.
  • Background in engineering or deep technical product leadership is a strong plus.
  • Track record of leading high-performing product teams and delivering standout B2C experiences.
  • Strong grasp of the full card lifecycle: processing, disputes, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with product P&L ownership or commercial performance accountability.
  • Familiarity with the UK fintech ecosystem and regulatory environment is highly desirable.

What we can offer you:

  • Culture -We put our people first and prioritize the well-being of every team member. We’ve built a company where all opinions carry weight and where all voices are heard. We value and respect each other and always look out for one another. Above all, we are human.
  • Learning - We have a learning and development-focused environment with an emphasis on knowledge sharing, training, and regular internal technical talks.
  • Compensation - You’ll receive an attractive salary, monthly bonus, up to 10% pension matching, health insurance, and 25 days of leave

What to expect in the hiring process:

  • A preliminary call with one of our recruiters.
  • A 60-minute interview with one of our Product Leaders who has hands-on experience with card products.
  • A 60-minute interview with the CTO of our multi-currency account business unit.
  • A 45-minute interview with the hiring manager (our CEO, UK).
  • A 45-minute interview with our Group CEO and Founder.
